CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) – A storm has heavily damaged at least 10 homes but apparently caused no injuries when it struck near Charleston, South Carolina.
St. John’s Fire District Battalion Chief James Ghi (Gee) said crews were still clearing debris and assessing damage Friday morning.
The National Weather Service had a tornado warning in the area early Friday. Meteorologist Douglas Berry says radar and damage reports indicate it was probably a tornado that hit southwest of downtown Charleston.
Ghi says the weather service hasn’t yet confirmed that it was a tornado. The weather service will send a crew to survey the area after daybreak.
South Carolina Electric & Gas reported about 200 homes without service in Charleston County.
Ghi said officials are worried about flooding as high tide approaches Friday morning.
