GUILFORD, CT (WTNH) — There’s nothing more American than apple pie. But with dozens of different types of apples, which are the best ones to use to make your pie as delicious as it can be?

Russ Geary, the Produce Manager at Bishops Orchard in Guilford, gave us some tips on which apples are supreme for apple pie baking.

“The three really good ones that I would recommend is a Stayman, Stayman Winesap is the full name, a Baldwin, and a Golden Delicious. If you get a Mac or a Courtland you’re going to have a much juicier or runnier pie.”

Geary says that even mixing those different kinds of apples can create a pie with a nice even balance.

If you’re waiting to use those apples for your Thanksgiving feast, Geary says the fruit will last longer than most people expect.

“We recommend that you would put them in you refrigerator. In that situation, they’re going to last for two, two and a half months.”

Whether you are making pies with fresh picked apples now, or you wait until Thanksgiving, using Geary’s tips will ensure that your pie is the best it can be.
