SAN DIEGO (AP) – An American Airlines plane landed safely after it was hit with a laser beam on approach to San Diego International Airport, airline officials said Wednesday.
The pilot of Airbus A321 from Phoenix reported the laser in the cockpit shortly after 9 p.m. Tuesday before it landed about 10 minutes later without incident.
The plane had 168 passengers and a crew of six aboard. No injuries were reported.
Earlier this month, pilots aboard a San Diego-bound SkyWest plane from Los Angeles reported a laser flash to air traffic control when it was about 10 miles east of the airport.
Federal Aviation Administration officials say there have been more than 4,300 such incidents reported by pilots nationwide this year.
In San Diego, there have been about 90 incidents, compared to 58 reported for all of 2014 and 50 in 2013.
