Ohio girl’s wheelchair transforms into Cinderella carriage

WAVERLY, Ohio (WCMH) – Regan Shannon wanted to go as Cinderella for Halloween, and just like the Disney cartoon, she got a magical carriage ride for the special night.

Regan, 5, is battling spinal muscular atrophy, a genetic disease that affects the part of the nervous system that controls voluntary muscle movement, according to the Muscular Dystrophy Association. The disease has left her in a wheelchair, but that didn’t stop her parents from making it a magical Halloween night for the little princess.

For Halloween, Regan wanted to be Cinderella, and we all know that Cinderella has to have a magical carriage. Her parents transformed her wheelchair into that carriage, her aunt was her Fairy Godmother for the night, and Regan enjoyed trick-or-treating just like the other kids.

Brandy Shannon, Regan’s mom, says the little girl was one of 11 children selected to participate in a clinical trial at Columbia University Hospital in New York for a drug that is designed to stop the progression of muscle weakness and has been shown to give kids with SMA more strength.
