COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) – Authorities and witnesses say a man marching down the street in Colorado Springs, Colorado, shot and killed three people today, before being fatally shot in a gun battle with police.
Colorado Springs police Lt. Catherine Buckley says the officers were responding to a report of shots being fired when they spotted a suspect matching the description of the person they were trying to find. She says the suspect opened fire, and police fired back.
Buckley says the crime scene covers several major downtown streets. Those streets were shut down most of the day while investigators tried to figure out what happened.
Buckley says the investigation of the police shooting has been turned over to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office. According to sheriff’s spokeswoman Jacqueline Kirby, there were at least three crime scenes.
