Cleveland, Cincinnati casinos will be renamed by new owners

Two of Ohio’s four casinos will have new names and new management by the middle of next year.

Rock Gaming announced that it’s taking over operations from Caesar’s Entertainment at the Horseshoe casinos in Cleveland and Cincinnati and the ThistleDown Racino near Cleveland.

The move comes after Rock Gaming took over complete ownership of all three sites last February from Caesars.

The new names for the casinos haven’t been determined, but the Detroit-based company led by Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert said Monday that it will be business as usual during the management transition.

But there will be one change that may affect regulars at the casinos: Gamblers at the Cleveland and Cincinnati casinos will no longer be able to take part in Caesars’ customer loyalty program, which is one of the nation’s largest programs.

Instead, Rock Gaming will offer a new rewards program, said Matt Cullen, CEO of Rock Gaming. “They can keep their current levels and points and we will have a new loyalty program that will come in with the same level,” he said.

Rock Gaming also owns the Greektown casino in Detroit and a controlling interest in Turfway Park in Florence, Kentucky.
