NEW YORK (AP) — New York City’s police commissioner says he has “no concerns about security” for the city’s annual Thanksgiving Day Parade.

Police Commissioner William Bratton said Wednesday thousands of officers would be on hand to patrol the parade route in Manhattan.

About 3 million people are expected to line the streets as giant inflated characters float by during the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. The annual parade has been a New York tradition since 1924.

Bratton says this will be the first year an additional 1,300 officers who are assigned to counterterrorism-related units will be dispatched to the parade.

He says it’s a testament to the parade’s safety that he will be watching the event with his grandchildren.
