ELLICOTTVILLE, NY (WKBN) – Holiday Valley will open for the 2015-2016 season on Sunday December 20 at 10 a.m. and close at 10 p.m.
The Yodeler lift and two slopes, the Yodeler and Candy Cane loop, will be open with a variable machine groomed packed powder surface and a six to 24 inch base. Tickets are $39 for an adult 8 hour ticket.
“We’ve received 10-14 inches of Mother Nature’s snow so far and it is still snowing. The natural snow, along with a good run of snowmaking will allow us to get this season rolling,” said Dennis Eshbaugh, President and General Manager.
Snowmaking will continue on 10 slopes as temperatures permit to be able to open more terrain as soon as possible. Holiday Valley has invested heavily in a state-of-the-art automated snowmaking system which has been critical to get the resort open in 2015. About a third of Holiday Valley’s 611 snowguns are part of the automated system. The guns are controlled by a computer to turn on or off and can adjust for the type of snow to be made.
The snowmaking crew can react quickly to make snow in short windows of cold temperatures versus the time consuming process of turning each gun on manually on the hill.
