OAKLAND (KRON) — A Southwest flight has landed safely at Oakland International Airport Wednesday morning after circling for over four hours due to a blown out nose tire.
Flight 2547 departed Oakland for Chicago Midway with 139 passengers on board around 6 a.m., according to a Southwest Airlines spokesperson.
“After takeoff, the Captain in Command made the decision to return to Oakland to check a maintenance item on the aircraft. With everything we do, Safety is of paramount importance and we appreciate our Customers’ patience while we work to get them to their final destinations for the holiday.”
The airport is now under a “yellow alert,” according to airport officials.
The Chicago-bound flight took off from Oakland but was turned around due to a nose tire that blew out possibly during takeoff.
Southwest flight 2547 is circled the airport to burn fuel for over four hours before making an unscheduled landing.
Emergency crews were at the airport on standby but were not needed.
