WASHINGTON (MEDIA GENERAL) – President Barack Obama walked into the House Chamber one last time to deliver a State of the Union Address on Tuesday.
“The United States of America is the most powerful nation on Earth,” the president said.
Mr. Obama defended his work throughout the last seven years and laid out a vision for the future, pushing Congress to work with the executive branch again.
“It will only happen if we can have rational, constructive debates. It will only happen if we fix our politics,” he said.
The House of Representatives passed sanctions against Iran and North Korea Wednesday.
Speaker Paul Ryan will hold another vote on the Iran sanctions even though it passed because 137 members missed the vote.
He wants to send a message to show up and vote on time.
The Hill quieted down for the rest the week. Republicans from the House and Senate went to Baltimore for a retreat to plan the year.
“What we are working on right here today and what we’ll be working on all year is putting together an agenda to take to the country,” House Speaker Ryan said at the retreat.
