YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – The massive blizzard on the east coast has completely shut down many major airports. The cancellations could affect air travel for weeks.

Airlines have cancelled more than 10,000 flights since Friday. There were no flights at all Saturday from some of the busiest airports, including Philadelphia, Baltimore, Reagan and Dulles.

Tiffany Funk, One Mile at a Time travel expert, says anyone planning to travel in the future needs to be proactive.

“It could impact things far beyond this weekend because having this quantity of cancellations in a short period of time impacts the whole schedule. It impacts how many hours the flight attendants are working. We could get to the end of the month, and you have pilots who don’t have enough hours left in their schedule to be on call.”

Funk adds that people calling the airline to change flights are waiting on hold for an hour and a half or more.
