CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – February 29 is “Leap Day,” and it comes around only once every four years. For nearly 200,000 people in the United States, that means they are only able to celebrate their birthday on its actual date every four years.

Jerry McDonald of Chicopee wanted to make sure his daughter’s birthday was recognized this year. She is only four years old, but this technically is the first time she has been able to celebrate her birthday. Jerry was out in front of the 22News Broadcast Center at 4:30 Monday morning to make sure his daughter’s birthday was recognized.

“Cassidy, it’s her first birthday, well kind of first. she’s a Leap Day baby. She only gets one every four years, and this is her fist one. She’s been very excited about it,” McDonald said.

The chances of being born on a Leap Day are 1 in 1,461. About four million people worldwide were born on a Leap Day.
