(KXAN) — Some Texans are still picking up the pieces after the massive 2015 floods. However, additional funding relief of $142 million is on the way.
The recovery funds were announced by the U.S. Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julian Castro, who says relief has been awarded to Texas communities that suffered during the disastrous flooding. The money will go towards fixing economic developments, and damaged infrastructures that include the thousands of houses that were hit by the floods.
“After disaster strikes, the most important task is getting folks back to a safe home quickly, so they can return to their daily lives,” said Secretary Castro. “With climate change increasing the frequency and intensity of disasters, we must take every opportunity to plan better and ensure faster recovery for communities across the nation.”
Money breakdown, where the funds are going:
- Houston: $66,560,000
- San Marcos: $25,080,000
- State of Texas: $50,696,000
- Total: $142,336,000
