ALABASTER, Ala. (WIAT) — A Shelby County resident who happens to live next to a perennial polling location is “sitting” her ground to protect her driveway.
Norma Howell lives right off Hwy. 119 next to Southside Baptist Church on the outskirts of Alabaster.
She says her house is technically in the county, but that’s beside the point.
Her driveway looks an awful lot like the turn to the poll and after having her driveway used and abused by waves of cars during elections past, Howell is taking a stand…so to speak.
She’s actually sitting on her riding lawnmower at the very end of her driveway. All day.
And she’s not budging.
“No, no I’m not budging. And I had one gentlemen to come by just not too long ago and he pulled right here and he pulled right here and had to turn around because I would not move,” said Howell. “I’ve had a couple of ladies to come by. One of them says you’re a smart woman. Another one came by and says stand your rights.”
