Wisc. (WBAY) – A group of Wisconsin attorneys say that Donald Trump is causing immigrants to seek American citizenship, just so they can vote against him.

Attorneys have seen a 75 percent increase in permanent residents seeking citizenship due to Trump’s public policy views, according to Glorily Lopez  a Wisconsin attorney who runs the immigration law team at a Madison law firm.

Trump has campaigned on deporting illegal immigrants and building a wall on the Mexican border.

“Individuals that have been long-term permanent residents, they want to be able to be part of the solution and express their vote, their opinions through their votes to ensure that Mr. Trump does not get elected,” Lopez said.

Trump supporters disagree.

“It is un-American to truck in foreigners to win elections,” said Oklahoma attorney and Political Science professor Cliff Johns.

U.S. citizenship and immigration services is predicting one-point-three million applications for naturalization this year — nearly twice the normal amount.
