SALEM, VA (WSLS 10) – State police are using a new way to teach the next generation about safe driving.
Scan Ed, an interactive teen safe driving and passenger safety program, uses Macbooks and iPads.
State police use a wrecked car covered in QR codes that the students then scan using the iPads, which brings up information and videos.
The Blue Ridge Crash Investigation Team developed Scan Ed to appeal to high school and middle school students.
“By learning what exactly happens in a crash they’re able to drive to a point of not getting into risky behaviors, always buckling that seat belt, and not texting and driving,” says Mary King, program manager.
There are nearly 30 QR codes set up to show dangers of speeding, texting, and not using a seat belt.
