CHANDLER, Ariz. (AP) – Phoenix-area police have identified a suspect they say shot two police officers at a Walmart store Saturday morning.
Police say 24-year-old Mitchell Oakley was killed Saturday after opening fire at officers who were responding to a call about a trespasser.
Oakley was a transient but has family in the Chandler area.
Chandler police spokesman Seth Tyler says both officers are in stable condition, but one was in surgery.
Police were called to the store around 6:30 a.m. They have not released the names of the officers.
Oakley had previously been reported for trespassing at the store.
