TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – They were the tweets of a frustrated senator. Senator Marco Rubio taking to twitter Monday night frustrated over media reports about his future.
With seven months left on the job as senator, Marco Rubio is shutting down any rumors of what he has planned for the future.
The Florida Republican who mounted an unsuccessful campaign for president sent out the tweets late Monday. Rubio made it clear on Twitter he has no plans to run for re-election even though the GOP is worried it may lose his seat this fall.
“I have only said like 10,000 times I will be a private citizen in January,” Rubio tweeted out.
He also mocked the notion that someone has to be holding an elected position in order to become president.
“It’s not a rant. It’s just that you can only get 140 characters in a tweet, so I had to use multiple tweets to make my point. I just find it funny to read articles where people close to me are making claims about what I’m thinking. There are no such people and this has been going on for far too long. Unfortunately in the media today they easily, just take anybody as a source and run these things. So I thought it was about time to set the record straight but it was mostly in humor not a rant. I guess twitter if they increase the amount of characters you can use, you can use less tweets,” said Rubio in an interview with WFLA News Channel 8 from Capitol Hill.
“Because of senate ethics rules I’m not allowed to negotiate with potential employers or what have you, I’m pretty optimistic and confident that we are going to have a number of things to choose from,” said Rubio.
“Well look we have significant policy differences. I have deep concerns about the way he has conducted himself during the campaign. Those are abundantly clear, none of that has change,” said Rubio about giving Donald Trump his full support.
“You know Donald himself has said that he doesn’t think uniting the party is that important, if that show he feels, that’s the attitude he’s adopted I’m fine with it, it’s not a big deal for me. I continue to help people who I share my views with. You know the presidency is important but so is, for example, a republican keeping a majority in the Senate,” said Rubio.
