(CNN) – Monday night will be a great time to get a close-up look at Mars, and you won’t even need a telescope.

The red planet is now closer to Earth than it has been in 11 years. That means Mars will appear bigger and brighter in the sky until June 3, and the planet will be visible to the naked eye.

It will be the brightest star-like object in the southeastern sky, and it will appear a bit reddish.

NASA said the best time to look for Mars during this close approach will be around midnight, Eastern time, on Monday.
