TITUSVILLE, Fla. (CNN, AP) – A toddler is among eight people who survived a crash along I-95 in Florida on Monday. Three others died.
An SUV carrying 11 people crashed around 6:40 p.m. near Titusville, about 40 miles east of Orlando.
Police say Latorya Brown, 34, of Leesburg, Florida, was driving a Dodge Durango northbound on I-95 when a left front tire may have blown out, causing the vehicle to swerve and flip over several times.
Steven Montiero, a spokesman for the patrol, says a preliminary investigation shows the tire may have malfunctioned.
He says three girls were pronounced dead at the scene and eight others were taken to a hospital. He says the people inside were family and friends. They weren’t immediately identified.
The toddler was thrown from the vehicle with such force that the child flew over a 30-foot barrier wall. The child was found in the backyard of a home on the other side of the wall. Montiero says rescuers heard the child crying.
Police say not everyone in the vehicle was using a seat belt in the 8-passenger SUV.
