RICHMOND, Va. (AP) – Police in Richmond, Virginia, say two people were killed when they were hit by a train.

The accident happened late Friday night at a railroad crossing in south Richmond. Police identified the victims as 50-year-old Darrel L. Page and 40-year-old Clarence L. Alexander, both of Richmond.

Police say in a news release that witnesses reported the two men attempted to cross the tracks despite the railroad safety gates being down as the Amtrak train approached. The two men were struck by the train in the crossing. They died at the scene.
