CAMERON, Ill. (KWQC) – Cameron, Illinois was hit hard by a tornado on the evening of July 16, 2015.
The Warren County Sheriff’s Department confirmed that the tornado went through Kirkwood, Monmouth and Cameron.
Illinois State Police say the tornado hit Cameron at about 7:30 p.m., causing significant damage to the town.
There are no reports of injuries, but the storm caused numerous downed power lines and several gas leaks.
Many emergency service personnel are on scene conducting search and rescue operations in the town.
No one is being allowed into Cameron overnight as emergency operations will be ongoing throughout the night. Police say no volunteers are needed at this time.
An emergency shelter has been set up at the First Street Armoury in Monmouth to house anyone displaced by the storm.
The Red Cross of the Quad Cities is assisting in the cleanup.
A press conference will be held at 8:00 a.m. Friday north of Cameron.
Ameren Illinois reports that thousands are without power in Monmouth and surrounding Warren and Henderson Counties.
