CAMDEN, N.J. (AP) – Two Texas men have been sentenced to prison for their roles in a mob scheme to take control of a financial company.

William Maxwell of Houston was sentenced to 20 years and his brother, John Maxwell of Dallas, received a 10-year sentence Thursday in New Jersey.

They were convicted last year, along with a member and an associate of the Lucchese organized crime family, of racketeering conspiracy and related offenses.

Prosecutors said the defendants conspired to take control of Texas-based FirstPlus Financial Group by using threats of economic harm, and replaced the company’s management and board and funneled $12 million to themselves for extravagant purchases.

Nicodemo Scarfo, son of the imprisoned former leader of the southern New Jersey-Philadelphia mob, was sentenced to 30 years in the scheme Tuesday.
