BRONX, New York (CNN) – Police are investigating an armed robbery at a Bronx laundromat. Wearing a mask straight from a horror movie, the armed robber paralyzed laundromat clerk Wen Mind with fear.

“I was afraid to die. I thought he was going to kill me if I didn’t give him money,” Wen said.

The 51-year-old woman said she was cleaning the washing machines Thursday night at this laundromat on Laconia Avenue when a masked man grabbed her at gunpoint, pulled her behind the counter and demanded cash.

She opened the register and the man dumped the drawer into his bag. He took off with about $250 dollars, all while the customers in the store here hiding.

Wen called 911 and police arrived within minutes.

Wen said she is grateful police are investigating, but would like to see more officers patrol the area.

“We want police on the street to protect us,” Wen said.

Police say the suspect fled the scene in a gray Jeep Liberty SUV. Ironically, the laundromat is only a quarter of a mile from the 47th precinct, but obviously that did not deter the man from committing armed robbery.
