WASHINGTON D.C. (WSLS10) – A new study of the nation’s largest public school districts has found that most schools require too many standardized tests of students.
It found that the average number of mandated standardized tests a student takes between kindergarten and 12th grade exploding in the last decade to 112, many of which are redundant.
Now the Obama administration is announcing new guidelines toward standardized tests, saying kids spend too much time taking “unnecessary” exams.
“I also hear from parents who rightly worry about too much testing, and from teachers who feel so much pressure to teach to a test that it takes the joy out of teaching and learning…both for them and the students, I want to fix that,” President Obama said.
The administration posted a video on Facebook calling for a cap on standardized testing at 2-percent of classroom time.
He added that the government will work with schools and states to avoid an obsession over tests.
