Police: Suspected gunman kills himself after Iowa incident

DAVENPORT, Iowa (AP) – A man fired several shots inside a building in eastern Iowa before he killed himself in the parking lot of a second location, police said Monday.

The Bettendorf Police Department says two people received minor injuries in the afternoon shooting, but they were not gunshot wounds. Additional information was not released.

Bettendorf police spokeswoman Lauran Haldeman said police in neighboring Davenport first responded to reports of shots fired at a law firm around 2 p.m. The firm is located in a building that also houses a military recruiting center.

Haldeman said the recruiting office and its employees were not “the target” in the incident, but she did not elaborate.

Several shots were fired in the building and two people received minor injuries. Police arrived within minutes, according to Haldeman, but the suspect had left the scene.

Minutes later, reports came in of shots fired at a second location. A man matching the description of the suspect was spotted standing in the parking lot of another business. He saw officers and fired one round into his head, Haldeman said. He died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

No additional injuries were reported at the second location.

Authorities didn’t release the name of the man or information about what led to the shooting.
