Car slams into CA home, lands on top of sleeping woman

SAN LEANDRO, CA (KRON) — Two people are seriously injured after a speeding car plowed into a San Leandro home Monday evening, according to San Leandro police.

Around 9:30 p.m., a car collided with another vehicle at the intersection of Farnsworth and Purdue Streets before it slammed into a house landing on top of a 25-year-old woman sleeping in her bed.

The driver, a 20-year-old man from San Leandro, went through the garage that had been converted into a bedroom.

Witnesses said the vehicle had been traveling 100 miles per hour down the wrong side of the street when the incident occurred.

The vehicle apparently landed on top of the woman and fire crews, with the help of neighbors, had to rescue her from underneath the vehicle.

The woman and the driver of the car have both been hospitalized. The woman is suffering from a broken back, ribs and cuts to the face. The driver’s condition is unknown.

Three dogs were also injured during the incident.

Six others were evacuated from the home and will not be allowed to return because the damage is so extensive that it is no longer safe to live in.

The cause of the accident is under investigation and police say it is too early to say if drugs or alcohol played a role.
