FLINT, Mich (WLNS) – Governor Rick Snyder is now the target of a racketeering lawsuit filed today by hundreds of Flint residents.
The suit names Snyder and other state and local officials over lead contamination of the Flint water supply.
It’s one of many suits filed after the decision was made to switch Flint’s water supply from the Detroit water system to the Flint River in 2014 as part of cost cutting.
The suit claims Snyder and others hatched a “wrongful scheme” to reduce Flint’s debt instead of “invoking time tested, well-honed federal bankruptcy protections for restructuring the debts of municipalities.”
Flint switched back to the Detroit system last October.
There is no comment from the governor’s office.
The Southfield and New York law firms that filed the suit claim they represent more than 400 people.
