Police say they checked the home in the 5900 block of Farm Gate Road on Tuesday evening. Responding officers found a woman and a toddler dead.

Late Wednesday afternoon, the deceased were identified as Aminada Drame, 40, and Fatim Diop, 2. Both resided at the home.

Police said  Elhadji Diop, the husband of Drame and father of Diop, has been charged with two counts of murder.

Diop, 53,  was taken to WakeMed for medical treatment. Police said he was being treated for medical conditions that appear to be serious.

According to the 911 calls, the New York Police Department reached out to Raleigh Police to tell them a family member who lives in Senegal had seen posts on Facebook that Diop was posting saying he was going to end his life.

Police did not immediately release the circumstances leading up to the deaths.

Raleigh police said a follow-up investigation is ongoing and more details will be released later Wednesday.

One neighbor, Mercedes Aviles, said those in the home usually kept to themselves.

“They are very quiet,” Aviles said. “They are always in the house. I don’t remember seeing them outside unless they were bringing in groceries.”

She said neighbors were worried at first that there might be somebody “on the loose.”

“But we had a little bit of relief when they [police] told us that whatever happened inside that house was from the people that were inside the house,” Aviles said.

Aviles told CBS North Carolina that the police asked her if she ever heard the family fighting or arguing,

She said she saw the man who lived in the home being taken to the EMS truck.

“He had no mask on his face,” she said. “It didn’t seem like he was in critical condition.”
